Another great weekend away with some great mates. We drove down Saturday afternoon and arrived with plenty of time to check in before the pre race dinner at the Riverine Club (it was called the Gentleman's Club but was changed however I prefer the old name). It does retain an old world charm.
The area had heavy rain in the weeks before the event and the was some doubt if the event would go ahead because of major flooding along the river. The first 10k or so runs along a walking track next to the river and this was a meter or so under water.
Many thanks to those that set a new course late in the week. It did cover a lot of the course on the higher ground including the testing hills. Because of the change in the course a comparison with previous times was not possible. This time there were more hills and even though it was an out an back course some nasty hills at the start made the rest of the run just that more difficult.
Sure you get to run back down the hills but if they have smashed you at the start the down hills at the end are not much of a help.
I had Garmin but did not take much notice of pace etc. I was just running comfortably within myself and finished the second half strongly or at least it felt that way. It was a very pleasant run over some challenging terrain.
